5-Minute Marketing Masterclass: How to promote your blog

Boost your customer base with these tried and tested content promotion tips

If you build it, they will come.

Right?

Unfortunately, that’s rarely the case. And when it comes to your online content, even the most-researched, beautifully crafted blog post can get well and truly lost in the sea of global competition.

Unless you promote it, that is.

Why should you promote your blog?

Your blog is a vital tool for your business in a variety of ways. With it, you can educate visitors on a specific topic, let people learn more about your services, and help build deeper relationships with your customers.

When you take the time to promote your blog you’ll reach more people, drive more website traffic, and increase the chance of converting some of your readers into paying customers.

So how do you get people to read your content? Join us as our content marketing team shares their top advice on how to promote your blog.

First things first! Create great content

The first step is to create high-quality, useful, relevant content that people will want to read.

Next, let’s dive in to the best places to promote your blog.

Email

People on your email list have already subscribed to receive communications from you, so they’re likely to be very interested in your new content.

Your email blast can be as simple as a short snippet from the blog with a link to read more. Try making it even more appealing by using language like “Just published” or “Our top resource, hand-picked for you” in the subject line.

Social media

Social platforms like Facebook, LinkedIn, Twitter and Instagram are great places to share your blog content.

Don’t be afraid of promoting your blog on all of your social channels—and even posting about it multiple times. Why? Most people won’t follow you everywhere, and social media algorithms mean that it’s very unlikely they’ll ever see every single one of your posts.

Accompany the blog link with a catchy description, snappy statistic or intriguing hook to entice people to click. Try using relevant hashtags to help your post reach a larger audience.

Extra tip: you could also include a link to your main blog page in your social media bios.

Ask your partners

If you work with a network of partners or affiliates and you’ve just written something that’s relevant to their services or their customers, let them know!

Simply send over an email with a link to your blog for them to read, and ask if they’d like to share it with their audience.

Don’t forget: your website

Because your blog lives on your website, this one might seem like a no-brainer.

Let us explain. A company’s most-visited webpage is often their homepage, and people who land there are usually looking for advice, information or insights. Your blog may be full of what they’re looking for—but they won’t be able to find and read your great content if it’s hidden away!

The fix: visit your homepage and check that your blog is easily accessible from the main navigation or other prominent location. If it’s hard to find, consider moving it to a more obvious spot—and then watch those pageviews come flooding in!

Bonus points: social sharing and internal linking

Here are two great extra tips to get your blogs to (almost) promote themselves!

Social sharing

Make it easy for people to share your content with others by having social sharing links on each individual blog page. As you can see on this page, we give our blog readers the option to share via Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn.

Internal linking
If someone is reading and enjoying your blog, why not give them the opportunity to read other relevant content on your website? Include links to other blogs directly within your content and you’ll make it easy for visitors to find more of what they’re looking for.

The result? They’ll spend longer on your website, become more engaged with your business, and hopefully turn into paying customers.
